This large Grade II listed brick building had had its listing status compromised by a previous owner who had added an extension to the building and had incorporated three large steel beams into the rear elevations to support the extensions, which had now been demolished. Our brief from the owner was simple: to remove the remains of the plasterwork and bitumen from the extensions; two remove the offending three steel beams by propping and needling the rear elevations and then to infill the block work cavities with 3000 recycled bricks and finally make the rear elevations “good” by carefully cleaning and repointing the restored elevations. The photographs show how the building looked when we inherited the project; the partial needling and propping works and finally the completed rear elevations.
